Original mountain curs our not just for hunting and their treeing ability but are also just a great Family dog for everyone to enjoy.
We are proud to live in the Missouri Ozarks and able to hunt what god gave us. I have hunted all my life since I could hold a BB gun and have trained many good hunting dogs. My Wife LeeAnn who had never gone hunting till she met me has come a long way. And we are passing the hunting heritage down to our kids.
Both of our daughters love to hunt and find it enjoyable to hunt our original mountain curs for squirrel and coon. We are so proud of my daughter ( Maegan ) for she worked very hard to save her own money to buy one of the Original Mountain curs that we have today. Our other daughter Raegan doesn’t hunt as much as her sister but loves to go out at night with us and coon hunt so she will be enjoying them as well.
Our Original Mountain Curs Dogs are all OMCBA Registered and some are NKC Registered
I remember my first squirrel dog that I bought for only 25 dollars he could out hunt any other dog that I knew of and loved hunting squirrels more than anything else. Maybe even more than I did but it would have been a hard tie with the two of us. HE was a mix with a black lab and lived for a very long time and never lost the love to hunt them. I was offered 500 dollars for him at one time and turned them down and then 500 was alot of money for a squirrel dog at that time . He was one of my best friends and a part of the family. I remember my brother in law come over one time and heard him treed and went to him to get the squirrel but old black stopped barking before he got their once the brother -in-law got back to the house he was barking again same thing. Finally he asked why he was doing that and I told him he won’t just hunt for anybody he knows if I coming or it’s someone else and does that. It keeps the neighbor from hunting him and he is trying to get me to go hunting with him. That is his way to get me to go hunting for he knew when the squirrels are moving.
May He rest in Peace.
Original Mountain cur and some history behind them.
It is believed that the Mountain Cur came from Europe, along with their owners who came to America in search of new homes. It has been established through family history and research that Spanish explorers brought the bob-tail on the South course. Hernando de Soto brought bob-tail current to drive the pigs and provide protection against wild animals, while he explored the South and later discovered the Mississippi River.
The Mountain Cur was declared a breed in 1957 with the organization of the Original Mountain Cur Breeders of America
(O.M.C.B.A). Prior to that time, dogs of this type could only be found in very remote, rural areas and there were no organized breeding records. The most common strains of Mountain Cur included the McConnell, Stephens, Ledbetter, Arline and York strains. OMCBA was able to assemble breeders and register the original-type Mountain Cur on the last weekend of September, 1991. Original Mountain Cur dogs today are used on squirrel, raccoon, and all types of big game. They can be resisted with the UKC ( United Kennel Club ) and NKC (National Kennel Club ) UMCA (United Mountain Cur Association) these club recognize the Original Mountain cur Breeders Association as full blooded dogs and it was with the OMCBA is the reason they are recognized as a pure breed.
We are Proud to own Original mountain curs and look forward to a long time enjoying them as companions and hunting partners.
